One Cypher for Black Lives

For the last year or so, we haven’t been able to post content to our site as consistently as we hoped due to other priorities, but we’d like to take this time to say that One Cypher stands in solidarity with our Black brothers and sisters. There is no question about it that the dance styles we feature on our site originated from Black culture. You can’t do the dances and ignore the people who created it. You can’t learn about the dance history and ignore the struggle.

We hope that there will be justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and we also remember the countless others who’ve been murdered due to police brutality and racist hate crimes. Our local dance communities all have a connection with each other. Let’s work to always stand against all things rooted around hate, racism, white supremacy, oppression, bigotry and injustice not just within our own dance circles, but beyond it. One Cypher stands in solidarity with the Black community. Your human rights matter, your stories matter, and your lives matter. Black Lives Matter.
