Homeland is Where the Heart Is

Future members of the homeland community

The Homeland Community Center in Long Beach, CA recently had it’s annual jam and many dancers from all over the world came out. Noelle Falcis recently published an excellent recap of the event. What makes it an especially wonderful article is that she has been coming to Homeland for years and seen it grow into what it is today. Below is an excerpt from her post:

For something ran by “street” dancers, it’s amazing how organized and timed the whole event was. I mean, we did three styles, start to finish, in FIVE hours. Event planners take note. That feat is amazing.

But what was really amazing about this last weekend wasn’t so much the organization…it was the fact that we didn’t do nearly as much promotion as we did last year and the house was STILL packed. And I mean packed. We had dancers come out from Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, and San Francisco. The vibe was simply beautiful. I’ll be honest, I’ve been beat this past three weeks. With practice for three showcases, practice for three battles, a college application deadline, a full time job, and regular life propped on top of everything…by the time the jam came about, I was beat. Beat, tired, exhausted, and, quite honestly, not really wanting to be there (really all I wanted was my bed and more sleep.) But as it always goes, the moment I get to Homeland, I never regret being there. In fact, as soon as I got there, I was hype, excited, and ready to go– all the things that happen when your friends from all over the world appear in one room, one event, one cypher.
